I recently had to take a break from the Box because I didn’t listen to my body
It wasn’t a long break and not one by choice. I’ve had shoulder joint issues for as long as I can remember. Slight pain would come and go. I am consistently working out 4 to 5 times a week. The shoulder pain, when it comes, has become worse and comes around about every six months or so.
When I’m feeling good, I go hard at the box; after all, I want results and a good WOD always makes me feel awesome!
Slowly the aches and muscle fatigue creep up, and, in reality, I haven’t taken recovery work seriously. By that I mean; I try to get as much sleep as I can (forget about 8 hours a night), most of the time I do eat nutritious food, weekends off from the box BUT……..

I forget to listen to my body!
I forget to take a week off from the gym now and again when my body is trying to tell me it needs rest. You know the feeling, low energy, muscles were feeling tired, and weight I usually can lift seems to be a struggle. I especially forget to listen to my body when the little aches and pains suddenly appear in my shoulder.
What have I learned?
As soon as I feel pain in my shoulder joint, I need to ask the coaches to modify the workouts and the WODs for me. This time, when I came back from a week of healing and recovery, this is what I did, I modified. My coaches at
Forged By Fire Crossfit are amazing and know their stuff!. I still leave the box sweating from intense workouts and feeling great, even with modifying!
I’ll also take body care like stretching, using the foam roller, and massage therapy more seriously.
