Intermittent fasting for 17 hours?
In the past two years, I have dabbled with intermittent fasting but found I had a difficult time lasting past the “I’m F***ing hungry” stage. It wasn’t until a few months ago, along with learning about and listening to the experience of fasting by trusted friends over the past two years, I felt I could be ready, once again, to try fasting.
Why an intermittent Fast?
As like most people, I have goals with my fitness and nutrition journey. My primary goal is to have a healthy mind and body inside and outside for many years to come. I want to be able to move as much as I do now and when I’m 90 and beyond! Let us not forget the abs; I want a six-pack!
There are many reasons why a person may want to consider intermittent fasting. I’m not going to go into the science behind them other than to mention fasting can have significant beneficial health benefits. For all the facts check out
Fasting can help you:
Build muscle, weight loss, Live longer, detox the body, increased metabolism, boosts brain function, improved immunity rejuvenates the skin, prevents acne, better insulin sensitivity, helps to ward off cancer, maintains good heart health. The list can go on and on!
What helped my intermittent fasting for 17 hours, daily?
What sustained me during my intermittent fasting was what I was eating, not the quantity within my eating window, it seems obvious, I know. I increased my healthy fat intake, which lasted longer in my stomach and lowered my carb intake and maintaining my protein intake. Important to me was maintaining all my Marco goals; this ensured I’d be meeting my fitness goals without losing muscle. I wanted to gain more muscle.
I drank lots of Water
When I felt hungry, and when I didn’t feel hungry, I drank water. Probably the most useful thing I did to say on intermittent fasting! So many benefits with water, but that is for another post!
State of Mind
It took practice staying focused and positive. Times did get tough. I wasn’t always successful. I did cave in from time to time and eat, and that is more than ok. But eventually, I was able to stay focused on my goals while maintaining a positive attitude. Probably the most important, I surrounded my self with like-minded people who I could strategize and commiserate with and who understood my goals as much as I understood theirs.
THE RESULTS
The first results of intermittent fasting I noticed were when I started my night shift stint, which will last two months, it’s been two weeks. I saw my window of eating was shrinking because I was sleeping during the day. After crunching the numbers, I now have 4 to 4.5. I was now fasting 19.5 to 20 hours! Originally my fast was from 7 pm until noon the next day, 17 hours.
I am amazed at the energy level I have even though I'm fasting for that many hours #intermittentfastin Click To Tweet
I’ve lost an inch of belly fat, and my muscles have more definition before intermittent fasting, so yay!
I’ll get started on another post right away, be sure to sign up for my newsletter to be notified when I publish a new post!
